Recommend two pair of socks. One you wash/dry on your pack.

Yeah, I actually need to update this list. A lot of items have changed. I am actually taking three pairs of socks. Two hiking socks and one sleeping. Actually, recently switched to a hammock as well instead of my tent.

Awsome weight on the gear. You should be able to make really good time.

Whats the ear plugs for though

  jmapes wrote @

If you stay in the shelters every now and then you will want ear plugs. It’s not the black bears you have to worry about, it’s the snoring bears in the shelters.

Sounds like your close to being ready to head out on foot. Wishing you and Derek safe travels, no bugs, cool but sunny days, no encounters with animals, good nights sleep, no blisters & plenty of water and food etc. Have a wonderful time we are excited that you are doing this and will follow you along the way, look forward to your postings. Be safe.
Love Aunt Pam & Uncle Larry too!

Gear list looks GREAT! Very well planned and I bet you’ll keep most of it for the entire trip. Ear plugs are essential for shelters due to insane snorning from other worn out hikers. I started with sunscreen but ditched it pretty quickly…ditched the underwear also! It’s amazing what becomes unecessary for survival. You’ll know what you want as you head north. GREAT JOB and I look forward to meeting y’all when you get to Damascus! SAFE & HAPPY HIKING!
